About the opportunity 

We are seeking to appoint a Market Intelligence Specialist to support our Sydney Future Students team.

This role is responsible for primary and secondary qualitative and quantitative research and analysis and interpreting market intelligence relating to higher education. In this role you will provide strategic advice and recommendations relating to student recruitment, higher education and labour market trends; and product opportunities and risks. You will ensure that market research and intelligence needs for Sydney Future Students and the University of Sydney’s recruitment efforts and courses are appropriately identified and solutions are proposed to meet those requirements. You will be working within the Business Insights team, supported by a Market Intelligence Officer and working closely with a BI Analyst and the Business Insights Manager.

You will be responsible for undertaking several primary and secondary research projects to: benchmark against Australian and international education providers; understand student interest and demand, perception and attitude of course attributes; investigate and anticipate labour market demands. You will have the opportunity to contribute research insights to help inform discussions regarding future course offerings at the University of Sydney.

About you

  • skills and recent experience in developing, planning, and managing the implementation of qualitative and quantitative research (surveys, focus groups, desktop research etc.)
  • knowledge of marketing and student recruitment in higher education, market segmentation, consumer behaviour research methods and evaluation, and competitor and product analysis
  • knowledge of emerging trends, opportunities and risks in higher education globally
  • a degree in a related discipline and extensive experience in market intelligence and research
  • an understanding of drivers for conversion from application through to enrolment; an understanding of trends and innovation in courses, including content and course delivery, and the different audience segments.
  • knowledge of the labour market, including trends and emerging skills needs and qualifications of interest to employers
  • data analysis skills and experience; skills in statistical software (e.g. SPSS, MATLAB, R, etc) is desirable
  • strong communication skills, with an ability to present written and verbal reports to senior

Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University. For a continuing position, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident. Australian Temporary Residents may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
